The Brazilian Journal of Veterinary Medicine (ISSN printed - 0100-2430, ISSN electronics 2527-2179) is the official organ of the Society of Veterinary Medicine of the State of Rio de Janeiro.

It was launched in 1971 as a scientific journal of the Society of Veterinary Medicine of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Somverj), being recognized by the Brazilian Society of Veterinary Medicine (SBMV) and the Regional Veterinary Medicine Council of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CRMV- RJ). The RBMV circulates continuously since then with the registration ISSN 0100-2430 for the printed form.
Seeking to adapt the BJVM to the new platform for communication and dissemination of knowledge, the RBMV, at its forty-six anniversary, is undergoing the major reformulation, being re-launched in the online form, as an open access journal (Open Journal) and being published in English language, which becomes the first language of the journal, and also in the Portuguese language, maintains its original mission of disseminating knowledge throughout Brazil and increasing access to the entire scientific community through the English language. The RBMV is registered with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), an agency of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC), under no. 819.683.795. And ISSN (print) 0100-2430.
In 2017 received the registration in the ISSN on line 2527-2430.
